Dual Threshold Scheduling for VoIP Traffic on Downlink of WiMAX Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
Previous downlink scheduling algorithms of WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access), like DRR (Deficit Round-Robin) and WRR (Weighted Round-Robin), usually reserve minimum rate to each type of traffic and cannot consider the status of queue length of each connection, thus making it unsuitable for VoIP on-off traffic model. One well-designed scheduling algorithm is expected to coordinate QoS-related functional entities in WiMAX architecture. We address an efficient downlink scheduling algorithm, which allocate the bandwidth based on dual threshold of queue length. We compare the proposed scheme with DRR and WRR by estimating the system performance such as average delay, loss rate and throughput under several traffic scenario and system parameters value.

New generation of wireless networks, LTE and WiMAX, supports many services which consume a lot of resources (such as VOIP, Video Conference, Digital Video, Multimedia streams and online Multi-player Games). Supporting multi-media services in wireless communication systems provide new resource allocation challenges. Because of high loads in downlink, efficient resource allocation is vital in dow...
متن کاملApplication-aware scheduling for VoIP in Wireless Mesh Networks
Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are seen as a means to provide last mile connections in Next Generation Networks (NGNs). Because of their auto configuration capabilities and the low deployment cost WMNs are considered to be an efficient solution for the support of multiple voice, video and data services in NGNs. This paper looks at the optimal provision of resources in WMNs for Voice over IP (VoI...
متن کاملAdaptive Time-utility Function Scheme for Downlink Packet Scheduling in IEEE 802.16e/WiMAX Networks
WiMAX is a well-known broadband wireless access technology that supports multimedia transmission users. IEEE 802.16e has evolved into five quality of service (QoS) scheduling types for WiMAX uplink transmissions, but downlink transmission types have not yet been defined. To assist in this task, and to support efficient base station packet scheduling that takes QoS into account, I propose an ada...
متن کاملVoIP Performance with Aggressive AMC and SINR Feedback for WiMAX Downlink
WiMAX system is based on OFDMA, and it is very suitable for VoIP traffic. At the same time, aggressive AMC and frame bundling are two important techniques to improve the performance of VoIP, and so they are applied to WiMAX system in this paper. The simulation results show that when the system is in short of bandwidth, these two techniques indeed reduce the PER and delay jitter of the VoIP user...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Scheduling Services for VoIP in WiMAX Networks
WiMAX is a high speed, wireless broadband access technology for large coverage area. It provides IP based connectivity to the stationary, mobile as well as nomadic users. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) through WiMAX is the most prominent telecommunication service. In this paper, simulative investigations have been done for VoIP in WiMAX network considering scheduling services [1]. Investig...
